In order to not only encourage young artists, but also to provide real support for the realisation of their ideas, every year we are launching an open call for young performing artists to propose ideas for productions for young audiences (14-29 years old).

Taking into account the experts' opinions, we select the most suitable ideas for the theatre's repertoire and provide funding for the creation of work-in-progress (up to 15 minutes), which are presented publicly during the “Starting Point” festival.

The sketch competition, which has already produced a number of award-winning theatre productions, presents “test versions” of 3-4 performances by 3-4 stage artists, and all the entries are judged and the best one is chosen not only by the theatre's artistic council, but also by the audience themselves, who vote after each performance on a special scorecard.

The winner of the sketch competition is given the opportunity to create a full-length performance, which is then included in the repertoire of Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.

2024

The winner of the competition is Džiugas Kunsmanas with his sketch “ICARUS”.

"Icarus - the search for dreams and motivation. What did the first people who tried to get off the ground believe? What did the first attempts or devices to fly look like when others thought it impossible? It is an experience that encourages new solutions and creative approaches to discover how and where we can spend our time. The performance uses elements of contemporary circus acrobatics intertwined with projections - a new relationship is sought between the performer and the visual material, as between equal or complementary stage elements.

Estimated premiere date: 2025 September 5

2022

The winner of the sketch competition is Balys Švedas with his sketch “THE WRITER AND THE BIRTH MOTHER”.

The pauses in the reading of a play about the sensitive issues of suicide are dictated by the lighting, and the sounds of wind and keyboard instruments spill onto the stage. The dialogue between the two characters, the writer and the mother, is triggered by the questions raised by the suicide, and it is a dialogue that narrates, but does not answer a single question, maybe only raises more. It is hoped that this sketch will engage both young and older audiences and allow those who have not done so before to engage with these topics - talking is one of the few things that prove to us that we are alive.

2021

The winners of the competition are Adrian Carlo Bibiano and Arūnas Mozūraitis with “A FAIR DISTANCE”.

A dialogue between two bodies and personalities through movement about what makes our whole social world go round and round: immediacy and detachment, belonging and liberation, an all-encompassing duality in which connection is impossible without distance and distance is born in connection.

Premiere: 2022
