We invite all budding performing artists to take part in the sketch competition and present their work to a wider audience!
We are accepting proposals for new plays until June 24. The ideas best suited to the theater’s repertoire will receive funding and assistance in developing a draft, and we will help the contest winners turn their drafts into full-length plays and present them on the stage of the Kaunas City Chamber Theater.
About the sketch competition:
In order to not only encourage young artists, but also to provide real support for the realisation of their ideas, we are traditionally launching an open call for young representatives of the performing arts to come up with ideas for productions aimed at young audiences (14-29 years old).
Taking into account the opinions of experts, we will select 3–4 ideas best suited for the theater’s repertoire and allocate up to 700 EUR in funding for the creation of their sketches (up to 15 minutes), which will be presented to the public during the 2026 “Išeities taškas” festival. The winner of the sketch competition will be given the opportunity to create a full-length production, which will be included in the repertoire of the Kaunas City Chamber Theater.
Conditions:
The sketch must be produced and presented during the “Starting Point” festival on September 23–24, 2026:
- The competition is open to emerging performing artists up to the age of 35 (inclusive);
- The project must not have been shown publicly (sketches shown in previous competitions are eligible for this competition, as long as they have not yet been shown publicly as full productions);
- The project must be aimed at a young audience (ages 14–29) and adapted to the spaces of the Kaunas City Chamber Theater (https://www.kamerinisteatras.lt/erdves/);
- The measures are not limited, but must be justified and enforceable.
Evaluation criteria:
- The main selection criterion is the quality of the project/idea: the work must be structured, complete, coherent and justified;
- The size of the creative team is evaluated, as well as the adaptability of the format to the spaces of Kaunas City Chamber Theatre;
- The cost of the demonstration is taken into account (point 7 of the project estimate);
- Participants are asked to provide a preliminary estimate for the performance, which must be reasonable and justified.
Please send the completed documents (project application form, full production budget, and the applicant’s resume) by email to vadyba@kamerinisteatras.lt by June 24, 2026 (inclusive).
